What is a Tanjore Painting?
Tanjore painting is a unique art form that originated in the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. It flourished during the Maratha rule in the 17th century and is renowned for its depiction of Hindu gods and goddesses. The distinct features of these paintings are their vibrant colors, intricate gold leaf work, and the use of sparkling stones, which give them a divine and radiant appearance.

How It's Crafted?
Each Tanjore painting is meticulously handcrafted with immense devotion and precision. The process is lengthy, often taking several weeks to complete.

Preparation: The wooden canvas is first prepared by applying a paste of chalk powder and tamarind seed glue, creating a smooth, even surface.
Sketching: The figures of the deities are then carefully sketched onto the board.
Gold Leaf Work: Thin sheets of 24-carat gold foil are delicately applied to embellish key areas like the deities' attire, ornaments, and the architectural structures in the background.
Stone Setting: Sparkling glass stones and semi-precious gems are meticulously set into the painting, enhancing its beauty and opulence.
